Today I want to discuss with you My Big 3. These 3 exercises are fundamental to weight training and building muscle. Before moving onto more advanced training philosophies, you need to make sure you master these 3 exercises.
The first exercise I consider one of my Big 3s is the barbell bench press. I see this exercise being performed incorrectly many times at the gym. In order to make sure you’re doing it correctly, start by planting your heels on the ground. Next you want to rotate your shoulder blades backwards. In terms of tempo you want to slow it down to really get that pump. In terms of reps if Im body building I like to stick to 8-12 reps if I’m looking to gain strength, reps are usually between 1-4.
The second exercise I consider one of my Big 3s is the barbell squat. You want to start off by keeping your feet shoulder width apart with your toes pointed out. Keeping your legs closer together will allow you to target your quads more.
The last exercise in my Big 3s is the deadlift. The first thing you want to pay attention to is your grip. Hands should also be shoulder width apart. Grip the bar then pull those shoulders back and drive your hips forward. Make sure to watch the video to see exactly how I demonstrate my deadlift.
There you have it guys; my Big 3 exercises. Master these 3 movements and you will have a great foundation for your workouts.
